ECE Assistant

This course examines a theoretical framework of guidance principles and techniques which support children’s optimal development. Emphasis is placed on responding to the needs of the individual, promoting positive self-concept, fostering pro-social behavior, and addressing the factors that may impact behaviors. Pre-requisite: Grade 12. This course is 45 hours in duration.

ECCL 156 – Care and Guidance is a course that is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills required to work effectively with young children. The course explores a range of topics related to child development, care, and guidance, with a particular focus on the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of young children.

The course covers a variety of subjects, including the role of caregivers in promoting healthy development, strategies for providing nurturing care, building positive relationships with children and families, and implementing appropriate guidance techniques. Students will also learn about the importance of play in early childhood, as well as strategies for creating supportive learning environments.

Throughout the course, students will have opportunities to develop their skills through hands-on learning activities, including observation and interaction with young children, as well as through classroom discussions, readings, and assignments. By the end of the course, students will have gained a strong understanding of the principles and practices of early childhood care and guidance, and will be well-prepared for a range of entry-level positions in the early childhood education field.
